We say what thingsactually are
Western decor is a category where “leather-look” quietly becomes “leather” and a printed rug quietly becomes a hide. That is the shortcut we do not take, and this page explains exactly how we describe things instead.
Three terms, three meanings
Leather, faux leather, printed pattern
- Genuine leather
- Animal hide. We state which cut — full-grain cowhide, for example. Grain, tone and healed marks vary piece to piece because it came off an animal, and we describe that on the listing rather than photographing around it. Hide is a by-product of the food industry from lawfully farmed livestock.
- Faux leather (PU)
- Polyurethane on a textile backing. No animal hide is present. We never write the word leather about it without the qualifier attached, in the product name, the description or the specification table.
- Printed pattern
- A design printed onto a woven textile. Our hide-look rug is a printed polypropylene rug with a bound edge — it is not a skin and we do not sell it as one.
This is how the FTC Guides for Select Leather and Imitation Leather Products (16 CFR Part 24) expect a seller to behave, and it applies to our advertising and social posts as much as to the listing itself.

Original design
Our patterns are ours, and we do not claim otherwise
Every geometric, southwestern-influenced and western motif in this store was drawn for Saddleridge. They are original designs.
Saddleridge products are not Native American or American Indian products. They are not made by, for, or in association with any Indian tribe, tribal member or Indian arts and crafts organisation. We do not use tribal names, ceremonial symbols or protected iconography anywhere — not in a product name, a description, an image or a marketing post. This statement is made in line with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990.
We take this seriously for two reasons. Falsely suggesting Native American origin is unlawful, and it takes money away from the artists who genuinely make that work. If you want authentic Native American art and craft, buy it from Native artists and organisations directly — and please do not buy it from us, because we do not sell it.

Nothing burns
No candles, no fuel, no open flame
Western decor and open flame are a traditional pairing that we have simply removed. Saddleridge sells no candles, wicks, wax, fuel, lighters or fire starters of any kind, and there is no plan to.
- Our wrought-iron wall sconce ships with flameless LED pillar candles on a six-hour timer. Never put a wax candle in it.
- Our porch lanterns are solar powered with LED modules. They charge in daylight and switch on at dusk.
- Every textile listing carries a note to keep it away from heaters, stoves and other heat sources.
- Cast-iron trivets are the only thing here designed to take heat, and they carry a warning that they get hot in use.
The rest of it
Fibres, animals, weight limits and warnings
Fibre content
Stated as a percentage on every textile, per the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. If a throw is 80% cotton and 20% recycled polyester, that is what the listing says — not 'natural blend'.
Animal materials
Leather only, from lawfully farmed livestock as a by-product of the food industry. No exotic or wild species, no ivory, no CITES-listed materials, no real fur, anywhere in the range.
Load limits
Every wall-mounted piece states its adhesive limit and its screw-fixed limit separately, because they differ by up to a factor of eight. Adhesive mounting is decorative only.
Prop 65
Where a California Proposition 65 warning applies, it is shown on that product page and supplied with the item. We confirm the specific substance with each supplier before dispatching to California.
